Campus safety and security


Protecting the health and safety of faculty, staff and students is of the utmost importance to VCU. The university has several resources to assist in ensuring VCU and its surrounding communities are safe for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

VCU Police
VCU Police offer numerous ways to report crimes on campus. VCUPD also offer many services and programs designed to create a safe environment.

Threat Assessment Team
VCU’s Threat Assessment Team assesses and responds accordingly to any threatening behaviors and dangerous incidents involving students, faculty, or staff before escalation to violence. Title IX
The university remains committed to an environment free from sex and gender-based harassment. A comprehensive site devoted to supporting the needs of all individuals affected by sexual assault, harassment, relationship violence, stalking, and other forms of gender discrimination exists to explain the mission and purpose of Title IX and reporting options.

Building Security
VCU Police retain responsibility of building access control. Residence hall access and security information can be found in the Guide to Residential Housing.

Environmental Health and Safety
The Safety and Risk Management office maintains programs for radiation safety; chemical safety; biological safety; fire safety; and occupational safety.
